I painted this view to capture the incredibly uplifting feeling of walking the town and seeing the wild skies above the South Downs framed by the beautiful historic buildings. For anyone who has ever walked around this classic hilly Sussex market town, you will know exactly what I mean. There are many views like this one as the streets undulate up and down. This is one of my favourites. It reminds me of the same phenomena that occurs in places like Edinburgh and Granada, Spain as you see the Alhambra or the Cathedral wedged into the slots created by the historic streets and alleys.

And what is a street view without it's community? I love how alive this street is with the sense of community and independent shops. I hope I have done it's joy and warmth justice.
